I have yet to see a printer that understands RAW, so that would be JPEG then I guess. Most printers I know don't print either - they print PostScript

Raw and jpeg are quite simple, really. Raw = "whatever my sensor sensed", so it's only suitable for things that understand what a camera sensor is. This includes your camera of course, and various photo editing programs.

JPEG = "a standard way to compress and store images", and thus it's suitable for nearly everything that handles images. But, since it compresses in a lossy way, using it means quality loss.

A "RAW" file is just digital information(1's & 0's). You never really "see" a raw file. It needs something to interpret the digital info like your camera or some software program. Then what you see as a thumbnail on your computer or on the back of your camera is actually a jpeg file that is built into the RAW file.

I know!! It gets a little confusing at times. I even confuse myself when I try to explain it to people.

It's nice of you that you want to help, but I doubt that you'll do much good trying to explain something that you find confusing yourself. What you are saying about the 1s and 0s is equally true of JPEG, or any other file for that matter, so it is irrelevant to the RAW vs. JPEG matter.
