My PC is giving out plus it doesn't run Lightroom very well, so I'm looking at getting a laptop. What do you use? What do you like/dislike.

I have an external hard drive to keep my photos on, so hard drive space for photos isn't an issue, but I want something that will work well for a few years, especially since I want to upgrade my camera to either a 1D or a 5D sometime in the next 2 years.

HP Quad laptop. Single HD is not good enough.

You may want to look at the Apple Mac Book Pro. That is the ONLY 17" monitor notebook I have seen that does not run hot. Setting it up and adding hardware is quite simple and you don't have the drivers or virus problems that plague the Windows environment.

Adding hardware is quite simple??? Yeah if you don't mind paying Apple's ridiculous monopoly prices. I like it better that I have 50 different vendors to buy my PC parts from keeps the prices down.
And oh yeah Apple's and Virii????

Even as Apple continues to run ads ridiculing PCs for their virus threats, rumors are circulating that Snow Leopard, the latest version of their OS due for release this Friday, will include some sort of antivirus functionality.
Seems Apple may know something everyone else doesn't yet. Could there be some Virii floating around for Macs????

Have a look at this: http://www.amazon.com/Pavilion-DV7-1170US

It's what I have and has 2 hard drive bays I have 2 500GB HD's in mine for a laptop with 1 Terabyte of HD space... Not too shabby!

4 GB RAM
Wireless G & N (MIMO)
Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT video card
Altec Lansing HD Surround Sound with Built In Subwoofer (Yeah a subwoofer LOL)
64 Bit Intel 2.00 Ghz Core 2 duo

Yeah, I have owned a lot more than 4 lap tops. Put that Pavilian running on your lap for 6 hours and tell me you are still happy with it. You only think you have to buy Apple hardware. D-Link routers, cell phones from AT&T, old digital camera's that no longer can work under windows, the list goes on and on, all function without problems on the Mac Book Pro. Can't say that about windows.

That's pretty much where it stays the whole time I use it and not a problem at all.

Well I currently have 4 laptops but over the years it's probably been closer to 40 I've owned.

With VISTA Ultimate and WIN7 Ultimate I literally could not tell you the last BSOD or crash that I have had.
I've never owned a MAC so I couldn't compare she just asked for suggestions for a PC and I gave her one. I didn't mean to start the old PC vs MAC war here.

There have been for years. There just aren't as many as for Windows machines. But don't worry! As Macs become more mainstream, so will malware for them.

Also, there are cross-platform bits of malware out there. Macs aren't completely immune.

Mac vs PC.
Do you know why people only compare the two?
Because the third option spanks them both

but doesn't Linux run on a PC??

So it is really an option of option #2
And can't you make a Hackintosh out of a PC netbook????

Hmmm seems the PC has more options.
Yes I know you can run bootcamp on a MAC.

Let's just leave it at it is a personal preference!
