Default printing problem...HELP!

I have done all of the pp on my photos I want, now I am trying to print out on an Epson RX580 (which usually does not give me any problems).

The colors are all wrong! Whites are white, and skin tones are marginal, but I am getting these weird outlines of red highlights (for lack of a better term).

This is the original:
2009 07 19_Kira Flood 3 weeks old_1953
EXIF (more available on the photo page on Flickr, click on photo for link)
Camera: Nikon D50
Exposure: 0.013 sec (1/80)
Aperture: f/4.2
Focal Length: 26 mm
Exposure: +0.10
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: No Flash

This is what is printing out (sorry, the scan is very low resolution)
eft document 2

I am at a loss...I have changed several settings on the printer, still get the same red highlighting. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Anne

My first expectation was to say "calibrate your monitor!" -- but clearly that's not the situation here.

I would suggest that you're running out of certain inks. Does this printer have separate ink cartridges? Can you check how full each of them are?

Have you done a nozzle check? Run the cleaner mode? That's the first place I'd start.

Have you been using the printer pretty regularly? Or has it not been used for awhile? (Actually, it sounds like you do use the printer regularly -- but I'll continue on just the same.)

Epson's have a reputation for the nozzles to become clogged if they are fallow for awhile and there is no way to clean them, short of sending it to Epson for service, which wouldn't be worth it given the cost of such printers these days.

Thanks for the replies...I have been on vacation for a while and then came back sick, so the printer has been sitting idle for a couple of weeks. I will try a nozzle check and cleaning...I know there are instructions online for cleaning this beast myself...worth it before chucking it...

Anne: Run the cleaner mode a couple of times and then do another nozzle check. If it hasn't cleared up then run cleaner mode again and then check the nozzle. If things appear to be clearing up keep running cleaner mode until you get a photo that looks like you expect.

I had to do this with one of my Epson printers recently and fortunately it cleared up. But sometimes a nozzle gets so clogged that it just won't clear out. Then the best thing to do is just replace the printer. These things are so cheap there is not point trying to get them repaired.

Good luck.

Just a followup. If you right click on the printer icon in your Windows taskbar (where the clock, sound, and other function are located) then you will be presented with some options, including nozzle check and cleaning.
