Default Please explain

Can someone please explain to me why is it that when you print photos at walmart or costco the pictures turn up so retarded???
the pics looks quite nice and sharp on the monitor but when they get printed at these particular places they are just downright brutal?
im not even talking about the colouring. im talking about the quality of the printed photo

Umm... it is walmart and costco... what else is there to explain???

Honestly it is probably due to the fact that there is some 16 year old kid back there getting minimum wage and has no idea what he is doing.

I would recommend getting your printing done online at a place like mpix or millers

i havent actually done it myself. at work, a coworker brought in some of her pictures from a wedding. i think she has a canon rebel she told me. said she was using a 50mm. anyways - she had them done at walmart and i was floored to see how crappy the print job was.

in anycase - to print my own pics i use a photolab in the city. im happy enough with their prices and quality comes out well.

I would not expect to get my best quality prints from a place like that but honestly, if she is not satisfied with the prints bring them back and ask to speak to a manager. There is no excuse for sloppy work. Go back and have them reprinted until they get it right.

I am surprised about Costco - they use the same exact printers as Mpix....

Ah, sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Just last week I took some shots of my cousin's daughter and for my cousin's anniversary gave him 5 prints. I had them printed at Walmart. 4 of them turned out okay but the last one was fantastic. I was impressed, especially because I don't like Walmart at all. The picture had great color and was tack sharp. Glad I just got a great photo printer from my uncle. Don't have to rely on anyone else for prints.

It is not just the printer but the guy running it as well. Those big commercial printers are not like your at home inkjet printer. There is actually some knowledge needed to get good prints out of them.

They are not serviced by the guys behind the counter, which is a GREAT thing IMO. My only complaint with them is the paper is thin - that's about it. When I compared theirs to MPIX, the color was exactly the same but the paper, like I sd was on the thin side.

Now, if their paper were thicker, they would be my vendor of choice (cuz I could drive there...lol)
