Default Photoshop programs

My dad is looking at getting a photo editing program that does all the basics like cropping, cloning things out, ect. He was looking at CS3 with lightroom or Elements. Which would be better? I have Coral Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 so I have no clue on photoshop programs. Thanks for any feedback!

well.. Cs3 is by far "better"... but you can still do all that basic stuff in elements, which is what i use
it just depends on how adanced he wants to get.

a free program called "Gimp" can also do cloning and whatnot i believe

Download the Lightroom2 30 days trial.
Or other software.

But for e Lightroom does more than 95% of my needs and really handy at managing the workflow.

why do you not want paint shop pro anymore? I guess I am confused that you all ready have a program that does 99% of what Photoshop can do. So why spend more money?

I would say that for the basics Lightroom is good. You can use it to do cropping and most fixing too.

If he's trying to decide between Photoshop with Elements or Photoshop with Lightroom, DEFINITELY go for Lightroom. It makes no sense to buy Photoshop and Elements together in that Elements is just a lighter version of Photoshop whereas Lightroom does something almost completely different.

And like mipo above, I use Lightroom for about 99.9% of my photo processing. There's almost no need for Photoshop even unless I'm trying to do something drastic to the photo.

I love my paint shop pro. I said my dad was looking for a photoshop program and I'm not familiar with them. He is an appraiser and needs to crop, clone people out of pics, ect sometimes.

thats a big bummer. But you could still contact Corel and they will issue you one. I've had to do that a time or two
