Is this what you mean? I cut the picture out of the black border and put it on a separate layer. Then I added a simple white border to the background (black border) layer. I'm kind of new to post processing so sorry if it's not what you had in mind.

EDIT: Okay, I put the border in the picture. Not sure I understand if this isn't what you want. Using your rectagle selection tool, draw a rectagle inside the picture. Holding the control button, draw another rectangle inside the larger one. Then click on the bucket tool and fill the selection with white.

that's beautiful vcw79. i like it much more than before. however i wanted that white border you added to be in the photo, that is, not touching the black border. i do not know if you can understand what i'm trying to say!!

I use gimp, so I can't give you exact directions -- but this is how I do a similar thing:

1. Create a new layer.
2. Select all, then shrink the selection (I often use 50 pixels). Invert the selection.
3. Fill the selection with the outside (black) color.
4. Create another new layer.
5. Select all, then shrink the selection a bit more (Say, 60 pixels). Invert the selection.
6. Fill the selection with the inside (white) color.
7. Move the layers around so that the black border layer covers the white layer.

Voila -- it looks like a thin white border, but fully editable, and changeable, at any time!

Noob question here but...
How do you add the black border to begin with?

TIA

My post above should answer that. Do you mean something else?
