Default RAW files to disc?

Hi. Im a former film photographer was recently got into the digital world. I have an XSI and have been shooting RAW. I download my RAW photos into Canon DPP, tweak a little and sent the shot to photoshop CS3 to finish. My question is, what is the best way to save a RAW file to disc (either cd or dvd)? My present way is to send the RAW file from DPP to my documents. Then I can download the file to disc via Roxio Creator. Is there a easier way where I can save the file to disc directly from Canon DPP? thanks.

I have a folder that contains all of my RAW files. I would just archive once every couple weeks to DVD and external hard drive by dragging that folder to the program I was using to burn the DVD or copying that folder over to the external.

I know this wasn't exactly what you are asking but here is how I do it. All my RAW files get copied into folders on an internal hard drive in my PC. That is all that is on that drive. All the post processing takes place on that drive. When I convert to JPEG those conversions are sent to an external hard drive. This way in case I lose a drive I have a backup of one or the other.

When I download files from the card they are copied 3 places. One on an internal storage drive, one on an external storage drive and last to my working drive. The external drives (2) are rotated every two weeks. One of these is stored off site.

When I process the raw files they go into a working directory on my working drive. When final work is completed they are stored in subdirectory in my Photo directory on the working drive. This Photo directory is backed up to another external drive monthly.

Whenever I get the urge I burn both raw and finished tiff’s to dvd’s.

Yes I may be call anal retentive. But it keeps me busy.

First, thanks to all for responding.

ELMO, You say When I download files from the card they are copied 3 places. You mention external storage as one place you copy them to. My question would be, how do you transfer the RAW files to that external storage? Where are they when you download them from the card, and then how do you transfer to the external drive? thanks.

I download my images from the camera to my computer using Capture NX2. That puts them into a sub directory that has a 4 digit number, i.e. 0267. To that number I add a word or phrase that gives meaning to those files, i.e. Osprey, Butterflys, Flowers, etc. Then I use "My Computer" to select that directory and "Copy" it to a portable drive. I then go back and make any changes or delete the unwanted files and when I'm done I make ANOTHER copy of those files on a Different portable drive.

When I get a chance, I move my images into named directories. I always keep one portable drive with a copy of the original images in their original state. Then I have two portable drives that have the images in directories named for their content.
