Default Can't open raw in CS2

I have a Canon XS/1000D and CS2. I can't get Photoshop to recognize the raw files. Is there another program that I need to make this happen? CS2 says it is the wrong kind of file. I've looked at Adobe's DNG program, but can't find one that supports both my camera and CS2.

Looking at the Adobe site it seems you'll need to upgrade to CS3 to be able to read RAW files from your camera. The ACR 4.0-4.6 updates support the 1000D but it's not compatible with CS2.

Did your camera ship with any software?

I just bought the XSi, and it's bundled with "Digital Photo Professional".

Depending on when you bought CS2 (you did BUY it, didn't you?), you may not have ACR built-in: I know mine didnt for the longest time. Just go to the Adobe website and get a CS2-suitable version of Camera Raw.

Agreed. You can get the plug-in from Adobe.

Guys, the versions of ACR that works with CS2 are too old to recognize the RAW from the 1000D. And the versions of ACR that recognize the 1000D's RAW are too new to work with CS2. It's how Adobe forces us to upgrade Photoshop whenever we buy a new camera. Yes, you can also use the Canon software that came with the camera, or you can upgrade Photoshop. Or, you can use Adobe's DNG Converter to convert your RAW files to DNG (Digital Negative. Adobe's open RAW format--you may lose some Canon-specific metadata, but older versions of Photoshop and ACR can read the file).

How so? The 1000D/XS only came out a few months after my D80, and CS2 was opening my RAW files with no problem well after that.

Your D80 is older than you think it is. The D80 was announced in August 2006. Its RAW was added into ACR at v3.6, along with the 400D.

The 1000D was announced June 2008. Its RAW format was added to ACR in v4.6.

CS2 only works with ACR versions before v4.0.

Wow. I stand corrected.

This is why I love my CS4
