Default PSD or Tiff?

I've been using lightroom and photoshop for over a year now, and pretty much that entire time I've had lightroom set up to use create a PSD for use in photoshop. But I dont really know why.

What do other people do? What are the benefits of one over the other?

Cheers.

Do you edit your photos in Photoshop? If so, there's at least a little bit of convenience you gain there.

TIFF files are huge, although I don't think they much larger than PSDs. If you're not editing with Photoshop, you might consider using TIFFs just because the format is more universal.
