How do they do this?

I LOVE HBO's trublood and I have been trying to duplicate their processing. I wonder how they get the people to look like they stand out in the pictures. Its almost a 3D effect. Here is an example from their website...HBO: True Blood: Season 2

Also, I think I can get the effect they are using using topaz adjust minus the 3d thing they have going on. any thoughts?

Not sure how they do it but there is some 3D functionality in PSCS4. I haven't used it yet and really haven't even thought about it. Now you've got me curious.

I love that show too. Can't wait for the next episode. The shows story line is gripping.

I'm not sure what effect you are talking about. I see a page with a guy hiding behind something looking over his right shoulder and another guy crouched beyond that. Is this the intended image?

Looks to me like they just used some lighting. Diffused light maybe through an umbrella from behind the subject hitting the side of the face and arm. Another bare flash opposite it hitting the face and shoulder. Probably a reflector in front of the subject to reduce the shadows.

looks like the lighting on the subject and then two different layers. one layer for the subject and one layer for the background.

the lighting needs to be there before you even pp it though or it won't pop out enough.
