Hi,
I recently put CHDK for my SX10 IS to get the RAW capabilities ( heard of curiosity killed the cat?? :-D ).. well i wanted too see whether shooting in RAW really does make any difference to MY photography.. Anyways, its almost 1.30 at night here n i could only find one clickable subject ( the moth is nowhere to be seen tonight ) - an oil canvas hanging above my bed.. My RAW processing skills are highly rudimentary, and that is an understatement.. so i dont really know if i've done anything great with this pic.. actually i dont even know if this works.. i just went thru 2 tutorials here in DPS, one about basic RAW processing and another to create a high contrast B&W from RAW.. so i tried doing both.. Now, i'm confused if either of them looks any good. While commenting, Pls be reminded that it's my first RAW pic, its 1.30 at night, and i dont know how to process RAW images ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the corresponding JPEG one SOOC for comparison. ![]() Bring on the criticism and comments... Cheers, Harsh

Hi Harsh .. the raw version definitely has more details than the jpeg ..oh yes, I can actually see the difference .. well, you know what they say - practice makes perfect .. not bad for first attempt

There is a definite difference between the RAW and the jpeg. It's kind of a toss about which to use. Your photos have far more wiggle room for error with RAW but you can spend hours adjusting them. This is the photo that made a RAW believer out of me. I shot manually and, as you can see, this was a once in a lifetime event. I SEVERELY underexposed it. When the RAW image came up in Photoshop, it was so dark you could barely make out an image. RAW save the day: I Think I Love You! on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Keep snapping and you'll find your answers.

Love that pic. .. I think i know what u mean about spending hours adjusting them. I clicked this pic yday and then had absolutely no idea on how to go about processing it. still dont ..i guess i'll "find the answers" as i snap more. ![]() Thankfully, we have the RAW + JPEG option nowadays, so if i pic has come out decently or i dont want to adjust too much, i always have the lazy option of using the JPEG ![]() Thanks for your comments.. and again, that pic on flickr is gorgeous..

Hi Harsh. Well buddy I have to admit. I never tried Raw, maybe coz I'm too lazy lol
I do see a big difference between the first and last shots and the contrast and detail looks much better. So well done. It looks like you did a great job. This is great post and maybe now, I will stop being lazy and give it a try. Well done Harsh. Dave.
