Would anyone kindly guide me to a good free noise reduction program for the Mac OSX?

You can check it out following this link:

Just about all of the popular noise reduction plugins and stand alone programs run on Mac.

The best thing you can do is Google them and take advantage of all the free trial offers.

That said, I like Noise Ninja just fine.

Best way I know-in photoshop-(doesn't plasticise) is

- Noise (Chroma-colour noise)

- Image> Mode> LAB Colour> Channels
Channel “a” Gaussian blur 5 pixels
Channel “b” Gaussian blur 5 pixels
Channel “lightness” Filter> noise> despeckle
Image> Mode> RGB colour

-Noise (Luma -Grainy noise)

-lasso area and apply smart blur at default setting (For small areas)
-Or Ctrl+J
-Smart blur-Then eraser tool to expose background features

QUICK-SIMPLE and FREE!

Neat Image is very good. There is a free version and the only downside I can see to that version is that it doesn't run as a photoshop plug-in and it can't output TIFF files.
