Default Photoshop Elements 7?

Hi all I'm new here.

I was thinking of getting photoshop elements 7 but I'm not sure if my computer can handle it. I think my specs just meet the system requirements. wonder if anyone here has experience using it on say a similar system?

I use an Acer destop. my processor speed is 2.0 and i have 2 gb ram. on the adobe website, elements 7 needs 2.0 processor speed and above and 1gb ram.

the thing is i'm having some trouble with the canon software provided. it takes super long to open raw files.

do you think i would have the same problem on elements 7? should i upgrade my pc first?

Question how much HD space do you have left on your computer...once you get past 65-70% full the machine is going to slow down (the paging file if windows based will be sized accordingly..less HD space = smaller paging file...when was the last time the drive was wiped and reloaded or defragged even...that can do wonders for speed...
If the 2 questions above dont pertain to you than it may be worth looking into another system..mine is a 2.8ghz processor bumped up to 3ghz with 1.5g ram and I have no issues running elements 7 on it..

I run Elements 6 (which is virtually identical to 7) on my laptop with no issues at all. I can't remeber that stats of the top of my head but I think it has a 2Ghz processor and 2GB RAM, certainly not more than that. I'm also running vista which eats most of the RAM before I do anything else.

Download the trial version and see what happens. Its free!

Thanks for the replies. Haven't tried defragmenting yet. My hard disk is less than 50% used right now. so far everything's been great except for handling the raw files which were about 12mb each. I've switched to taking in jpeg for now and my files are much smaller, around 3-4mb.

would love to upgrade the system, but thats additional costs again and I just bought my camera not too long ago.

Which canon software are you using to open the files...DPP or zoombrowser ex?
Try using zoombrowser ex if you have only used DPP..you can open RAW and do some adjustments and then save as either tiff or jpeg
Do you have the latest versions?
How much available memory do you have..(i.e. how much is already running on your machine at startup)?

Your system specs are good enough for running Elements 7...

I've never used Canon software but my Olympus software was painfully slow compared to ACR. The same may be true with Canon. Try the trial version, its the only sure fire way to know.

Hey Fletch-
I'm running a comparable system to yours...I downloaded the trial of PSE 6 and have had a lot issues with it shutting down. I believe it to be a compatability issue with Vista. Have you had any problems? I've been hesitant to make a final purchase decision.

Are you able to open RAW files with PSE 6? I didn't have any luck there either.

No issues for me. I run Vista and have never had an issue with PSE 6. It opens my Olympus RAW files fine and its compatable with the 40D. Opening one RAW is instantaneous and can be treated like a JPEG. Multiple files take longer.

PSE7 is the latest version though so I would download that one. You need to make sure you have the latest version of ACR with it as well. This can be found on the Adobe website as well.
