Default Simple Photoshop layers question.

I have a simple question about layers in Photoshop Elements 6

If I want to create a new layer with a different photo ( different exposure / same shot)

How do I get the new photo to open up the same size as the background layer?

Every time I overlay it the new shot opens up small and I cannot see anyway to automatically open it to the same size as the background.

I was told that holding down the shift key and dragging the new image over the background does this automatically but that is not the case.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

When you paste a selection from one document to another, it positions it at the centre of the canvas at it's original size. So, if youre working with a canvas that is 800x600 and paste an image that is 400x300, it'll be in the middle and small: if you paste in an image that is 1600x1200, it'll be centered (x,y) but will extend past the canvas.

PS always pastes a selection as a new layer.

Aha!

My mistake was dragging and dropping the image I wanted to be my layer.

I needed to open the desired image, click select - select all then click edit - copy go back to my background shot and paste

Voila!

Thanks for the help!
