you have to register a watermark in order to enforce copyright. since that is an expense most of us don't want, then we at least go for the "hey if you steal it without credit, it will be obvious".

now i use watermarks because someone has already taken my efforts without crediting me, also i limit the size for display as raigoki suggested 600 or 500 on the smallest size. I believe the reason for that is because its too small to reprint commercially.

as pointed out. it is easy for anyone with good PSP knowledge to wipe out your watermark, however do it over a complicated area or use an image watermark rather than text and you stand a better chance.

the size of your watermark can depend on the visiblity. the more it blends into a background the bigger it can be.

i use text at the moment and have no complaints( otherwise too bad!) see links below for latest examples. I will hopefully get around to creating am image watermark when I ask a friend who is a professional illustrator, but till then i use a transparent watermark as show in examples

this one below, you may not be able to see if flickr still has the hiccups, if so go to photostream and look for 'sleeping gray' ( hopefully you will see it even at small photo size). I can tell you how to do this if you want ( got it from psp user mag)

Well, the whole point of a watermark is not to "protect" the photo. It is more of insurance that "Hey, if you take my photo, I'm at least getting credit for shooting it" , you know?
