could you take another photograph of the can & do a low opacity clone of the new can over the glare on the old one?
I'm not sure what else to suggest as you've essentially lost a lot of detail in those areas & it would be very time consuimg to recreate the missing elements around the letter c.

tried that.. having a P&S shoot.. its really not happening in reproducing it. and making it fit correctly. i tried using the clone tool.. and that wasn't working. maby i need to learn the clone tool more, but the checker-plate pattern is really stuffing me up here.

Probably not salvageable. Once you blow a highlight by enough, there is no information recorded at that pixel - it's just white. Any attempt to bring down the exposure at that pixel will yield shades of grey until, eventually, you hit black. Attempting to clone in a new can will be really tricky, as not only is there a complex pattern on the can but also text. While not undoable, it'd probably be faster to go retake the shot with your flash further off axis from your lens.

Reshooting the can would be relatively easy... except you have all those lovely reflections from the branches, so you would need to go back to a similar place in similar lighting conditions.
Is there any particular reason you can't just choose the "ditch it and move on" option, which is least time-consuming of all? Wulf ps. moved to a more suitable section of the site. |

You should be able to just shoot the can again and patch the other one.....
you cant save the original cause of the blonw out area....no info. Shouldnt be that hard if you can get the new image approximately the same exposure without the glare.

im just going to go out and shoot the whole photo again. and use a tissue to lessen the flash ( unless i can get enough colors with no flash at all )
