can you post your photo? i have picasa as well, so what exactly do you do? one thing that i have noticed is that when you sharpen an image in picasa, it seems to soften up a bit after saving it, dont know why it does this (but it is still sharper than original)...i usually just use my corel for sharpening.

I found Picassa 3 to be a load of rubbish, certain features do not work properly and some are missing from previous versions. I was testing it to run a course on Image Restoration.

While testing software I found 2 that work well, and both have advanced features such as Layers, Curves, Levels, etc., which may not mean much but as you get to do more editing and playing around then they come into their own.

They are:

VCW Vicman's Photo Editor (also other usefull software at the site)
http://www.vicman.net/vcwphoto/

Photofiltre (this one takes plugins. Note that Photofiltre Studio is not free, the standalone version is)
http://www.photofiltre.com/

Picassa is now entering the era of software that does little more than cut and paste objects to make collages so that it can compete with a new market. It is also designed to work with online community sites and google. It will only get worse as each new version comes out.

If you are a beginner be careful about advice to go for the Gimp. It is good but most definitely not a beginners tool unless you are a nerd or a computer geek (I am not a geek, I am a professional with 20 years experience in high end graphics applications including satelite imaging).

I would also suggest that when editing photo's save them as tiff. Tiff files are bigger but are Loseless meaning you can drag them in and out, edit and save, and they will retain all the valuable information you did not destroy in editing, and using layers means you will not destroy anything. And you can print tiff as easy as jpeg, and most photo stores will also print them.

Have you tried exporting it to a new folder after making the edits?

I applied the sharpening via the slider. Then hit apply. Then I tried to export to folder( not sure what to put in for size, I just did 800 pixels). I really don't know what I am doing, but this pic seems to a bit sharper than the original. Thanks so much for your help
