Default I have to be doing something wrong...

I use CS4 and LIghtroom. i import cr2 files from my camera into LR, adjust WB. 9/10 i make all my adjustments in LR, and then export as a jpeg.
When adjusting in CS4, i have to export from LR to a tiff file, open in photoshop, edit, then export to jpeg. is this right? photoshop wont open cr2 files. i've already downloaded the update for PS.
i am very new to post processing, and this just seems like a lot. why wouldnt they both open the same format?

Can't see for the life of me why you would even want to use Lightroom when you have CS4!!!

You can avoid all this mess by using the Bridge to load your CR2 image into Camera Raw, pre-process it and then pass it into Photoshop. In the Bridge open Camera Raw Preferences, at the bottom set to allow CR to handle tiff's and jpegs, Then in the Bridge Preferences under General make sure that you have selected Double click opens in Camera Raw. That should be it, you can now open tiff, jpeg, and Raw images in Camera Raw, then once finished in Camera Raw clicking open will open the image in Photoshop for post. And look around Camera Raw as there is so much non destructive work, including spot removal, that Photoshop is required for little more than artistic license.

Make sure you are running the latest version of Camera Raw, 5.2 currently.

Seconded. ACR 5.XX is a great tool. Ive never been able to justify LR's pricetag, considering I have ACR with my CS4

Between The Bridge and Camera Raw you have more control over your Raw converions, and the ability to use the Raw converter to do non destructive edits to jpegs and tiffs, you can organize your images using folder structures like using windows explorer (which is much easier than using catalogues, you can Label/rate and use filters to access images so there is no real need for Catalogues, and above all because the Bridge hands you over to Camera Raw to work you have the full power of Camera Raw to work. Unlike Lightroom which draws on some of the Camera Raw functionality.

And the best part is that you buy CS4 you get the Bridge with it for free.

To me Lightroom was just Adobe's attempt to compete with Aperture and another product that was bought out by Microsoft then dumped. And for the life of me I cannot understand why a Photographer wants an Media Asset Management product as part of their toolkit, unless they are managing mixed types of media (document types, video, photo's, music, etc.) which is what Media Management is for.

And I am not bagging Lightroom as even though I find it cumbersome to work with it has it's place and it works for some users. The only big fault I find with it is although it accesse Camera Raw it only draw on part of the power and that seems stupid. But I may be wrong, there could be a way of going into Camera Raw to work.
