making an 11x14 print?
I have a canon 40D 10.1M and I want to print a full frame 11x14. my understanding is that i have to cut the white borders off but then it wont be an exact 11x14. how do i make it so it fills the whole 11x14 page? thank you for your help.

You've got two options
A standard frame is a 2:3 ratio, which means sizes like 4x6, 8x12, 12x18, 20x30, 24x36, etc. These have a 1.33 ratio. An 11x14 is a 1.27 ratio, which is a bit more square. If you make an 11x14 of your standard 2:3 shot, you'll either end up having to crop out certain parts of the image, or have to cut off a bit of white border on the long edges. Ive attached an 11x14-sized shape and have indicated the 2:3 ratio within it. (in blue). If you choose this option, what is orange in my example will be whitespace and will either be cut out or left. This is called a "fit-in" size Your other choice, as mentionned, is to fit the image, which is called a Stretch Fit. In this option, you lose a portion of your image in the crop (on the narrow ends). This is a classic problem. My personal solution is to only print in 2:3 sizes, as mentionned above. |
