If all you want is a utility to quickly view RAW images, then I would recommend the excellent FastStone viewer. It is free, but it does quite a lot of things, including basic editing, resizing, conversion, etc. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

Use the software that came with the camera to view your RAW files. It'll let you do more than most of the software out there and was meant to handle their file format. I think it's called Digital Photo Professional or something like that. I always get the Photo and Photography part mixed up.
![]() Another plus is that it's free hehe. Sure you can spend $200 USD for Lightroom but that's a personal preference.

There are two programs that came with your camera. Digital Photo Professional and Zoombrowser. You can use Digital Photo Professional to process RAW files and convert them to JPGs. DPP will also let you process JPGs as well. Zoombrowser will allow you to view Canon RAW files.
My workflow (until I started using Lightroom): Import photos using Zoombrowser. Use Zoombrowser to review and delete bad images. Edit keepers with DPP and save to a new folder. I use JPG 99% of the time. Here is a DPP tutorial: http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/control...386&fromTips=1 Why are you shooting RAW + JPG? Since you are new to photography, I would suggest starting out by setting your camera to JPG Fine (or whatever the highest quality JPG is called). Learn how to process your JPG photos first and learn what the limitations of JPGs are. You may never need to shoot RAW. |
