Ive only ever used mine for actual graphics work: website design, logo work, etc. I never use it to touch up pictures. Its not as precise as a mouse is: i find it's made more for sketching and adding in things specially.

Funny I use mine all the time for retouching work. I guess I am just used to it. I find using a mouse to retouch a photo now to be painful. For example getting a nice smooth controlled stroke with gradually increasing brush size is not possible with a mouse but it is pretty simple with the graphics tablet.

To the OP why not go in on half with your son. That way you get a nice tablet and he doesn't spend all his money.

Know what you mean, Rex.

In addition, in over 4 years of using mine, I've done everything within a business-card-sized area of a 4x6 tablet, using fine motor skill hand and finger motion.

I would, but my husband bought me a new lens for Christmas. Not a lot of $$ for a lens, but it is a lot of $$ in these tough times.

I told my son he can get me some Photoshop books. He thinks that is a boring gift. LOL But he also knows I enjoy books.

I'll wait until times are better for a tablet.

Thanks everyone!

I bought the Bamboo one, not the Bamboo Fun, but the basic one. It was not expensive (69$) and despite of the small size, I find it very useful for photo editing. when you want to make small touch-ups, the pressure sensitive feature is very useful. Recommend it anytime!

OK, this might be a silly question. But I'll ask it anyway.

Why do they call it bamboo? Because it's made out of bamboo?

Default Wacom Bamboo

I just got the Bamboo recently and love it. Affordable and more precise than a mouse, once you get used to it. As for why it's called that when there's not a bit of bamboo in sight... I guess I'm bamboozled.

LOL, Now so am I.

Maybe I'll take another look at the Bambo models. I really would like one of the bigger ones. But with the economy the way it is, and my son buying it, I didn't want him to spend that much on a gift for me.

Exclamation OK, Now that you get one, How LONG does it take to adjust?

OK, so you get one, I have a couple, but how long and what do you do to get used to the tablet?

I put mine away, cause it just felt awkward to use. How long should it take to get the "Hang of it"?

I see the potential, but maybe I need a video with lessons or something to get over the hump. Any suggestions would be very welcomed.

I would appreciate any advice,

Thanks again,

JM
