I tried two different styles. This is the Santa Barbara Airport building. Tiny airport, great architecture.

Very cool tutorial! Here's the original shot of my brother hiding from the camera...

Houston Hiding

...and here's the manipulated photo:

Houston Antiqued

Since I was printing this out, I didn't make the outer edges ragged, but I may go back and do that.

Default Elements help . . . please

Can some one help me with making the following step--namely the underlined phrase--happen in Elements? I would be most grateful.

Give the layer a mask by clicking the button at the bottom of the layers palette that looks like a circle in a rectangle. Pick the gradient tool (g) and set it to radial. Making sure that the mask is selected, start at the point of the picture you want in focus and drag away from it. The further you drag, the more will be in focus. If it does the opposite, swap your foreground and background colors by hitting x and then try again.

gstettner:
a way around using layer masks (I don't think Elements supports them) is this... make a selection with the elliptical marquee so that it encompasses the focus of the picture and a little beyond. Put it about where you want the blur to be more obvious. Then go to select > feather and try 75 pixels or so. With your blur layer selected, hit backspace, then deselect (ctrl+d). If you don't like the way it looks, reposition your selection or deselect and try again.

hope that helps.

Thanks. That did it. Also, I found that mask functionality can be downloaded from http://www.cavesofice.org/~grant/Cha...ols/index.html.

Default Elements help

[QUOTE=tad2106;3572]This is a bit of a rushed attempt and as I have Elements some of the processes I had to find other ways of doing.

How did you manage to get the rough edges look using Elements? I couldn't seem to make that happen.

Default whew....

Well I have Elements...so of course things were different and then I ended up not doing some things. This prob. took way longer than it should have, but it was the first "project" for me in Photoshop. I have only used it before for red-eyes! The only thing I really don't like is how it looks like a big circle of light in the pic...but oh well!!
