Default Best paper for printing

Can anyone tell me what the best paper is for printing photos so you get that studio look finish?

angeleyes216,

Depends on your budget and level of quality desired. NCR makes a good glossy finish 8.5" X 11" paper (matte finish on reverse also good). About 40 cents a sheet in a pack of 60 sheets. I use it for photos to sell, no complaints. Kmart: Multi-Project Glossy Paper #981640

i'm using "canon photo paper pro" with very pleasing results... I have tried HP, Kodak and a couple of other brands and while the Kodak was nice, the Canon paper won hands down.. The hp I have used as note paper... ugh!

I've tried HP, Kodak, some discount brand, Canon, and Epson.

The winners were definitely the Canon Photo Paper Pro (as Sime said) and Epson's similar paper. I really like the epson paper because it prints with really nice colours. Comparatively, the HP, Kodak, and Discount brand have a tendency to make the blacks look grey-ish and I think on at least one, the ink seemed to run together to make eyes just look like grey-ish holes on people's heads.

Of course this all depends on how good your printer is too. You could splash out on the Canon Pro and never get any near its potential due to a poor printer.

Agree with thingy.

Papers will also have different results on different printers. I've owned and used many different photo printers and papers that produce great results on one printer will only produce ok results on other printers.

Plus, if your printer isn't that great to begin with, it won't matter what paper you use. And on the other hand, if the printer is great to begin with, pictures printed on regular bond paper will still look stellar as evidenced on the Canon IPF8000 printer I use at work.

Not sure if you have a shop called Jessops where you live, but they are a big photo shop here in the UK, and they do their own brand paper, in all the sizes 6x4 7x5 A4 A3, heavyweight 260gsm Satin finish, and the photos come out absolutely gorgeous, (with my Epson 1290 printer), I did a whole wedding set on it and they were so pleased. Definately worth a try. Sime I'll give the canon a go though, always looking to better my prints, but I think it'll be hard to beat the jessops satin.

Are certain papers designed to work better with certain printers? For example, and leaving aside the general quality issue, on balance is Canon paper going to give me better results on a Canon printer, Epson on Epson, and so on?

Or is it just a matter of quality?
