Backgrounds and trees

Ok say I have a photo that i want to put a different sky in but I have a lot of trees. Winter trees with no leaves and lots and lots of branches. How do you layer/mask a new sky in behind it without getting halos all over the place?

Can you post the photo you are referring to? I would almost say you'd have to remove or mask the existing sky off a copied layer and it could possibly be done by color select and then place it over your new sky.

Maybe masking with the channels would work. I've got a video tutorial but it is on my home computer and I'm out of town using my laptop right now. When I get home, I'll try to get it uploaded somewhere for you.

I guess I should have verified what photo editing software you use. This is a tutorial for Photoshop. Which do you use?

Paint shop proIX. you can generally modify the steps if you know what the steps do.

Nice picture, I was wondering if the origional was in color as maybe easier to adust with the originional photo by changing color, must admit have no idea what I am doing in this area but seem to fluke something everynow and then.

The tutorial was grat, now I just have to figure out how to create channels mask in PSP. There has got to be a way............
