I just use another image of a texture. I then put it in it's own layer, and play with blend modes until I like the result, and then erase back where needed on the subjects.

Here is my attempt at texture.....The tutorial was great....I got as far as adjusting the opacity level but couldn't figure out how remove the texture from the subject?? How do I create a layer mask on the texture layer? This is so confusing

If I am thinking correctly, create a layer mask on the texture layer and brush away the texture from the parts you don't want it. While the layer is selected, you should be able to add a layer mask from the bottom of the layers panel.

Forgot to add this...nice work on the texture.

To remove the texture from the subject:

Select the texture layer.
Use the lasso tool to draw around the subject
Apply a guassian blur (filter>blur>gaussian blur at a low number)

Google 'red leaf studio' and they have a video on this technique. I haven't bought their actions, but would love to afford it. Has any used them?

Cheers Mandy

Using paths is usually a better way to go with creating masks in my experience - take a look at this video for a quick tutorial.
