Default Mono w/color

I used Gimp for this photo a few weeks ago, by following a tutorial I found on another website. It seems that tutorial had more steps to it than the ones in this thread, making it a little more difficult. I realized after I'd flattened and saved the image that I missed a spot on his right shoulder, whoops.

how would i do this in elements if i wanted to change the original color of the object i am super new to this?
