Default Applying Lightroom Presets

Do many of you utilize custom presets? Are there a preset or two that are the "go to" or standard presets and then adjust from that? Do you import with the preset applied or apply the preset after import in the develop module? Keep in mind I am talking about a single shoot in consistent conditions.

I'm not a fan of the default processing that LR3 applies to images on import, so I created a preset that sets all sliders to zero and also applies an automatic lens correction profile for whatever lens it detects from the EXIF. I'll generally apply that preset on import so I'm starting from a clean base to develop.

As far as style goes, I haven't found a preset to really work for me. If I've got a set of images taken under the same circumstances, I'll develop one image to my liking, then sync those settings to the other images in the set and make minor tweaks from there if necessary.

The only import setting preset I use are applying lens correction and copy write info to the metadata. I will then work white balance if needed and other small changes on one image of a set then apply those setting to all the images and go back to cropping, B&W conversion, or other changes to individual images and last export to PS to remove or manipulate beyond light rooms capability.

import shots into lightroom, usually do any tweaks in devlop then make a virtual copy and monkey with presets. I have a ton of them I've found various places on the internet. (sometimes I think I have too many). Find one that i think seems to fit and go from there.
I don't really have a "go to" preset that I use all the time.

I have a custom preset with generic settings that are to my liking. I did not relaize LR does some default processing on import. I guess I may set a preset as you do for importing to a clean slate.

To be blunt, I've not used or even looked at many of the LR presets as I prefer to do all editing myself. I do have to get better with sync settings as to not have to repeat the process on images shot in similar conditions.

I have a baseline preset that applies the standard amount of contrast and capture sharpening that I like. I apply it upon import. I also have a similar preset I use for wedding receptions.
