Default Lightroom Help

Hi. I'm very new to lightroom (very very very new), and a friend of mine has asked me if I can convert this photo that I took of her and her family, into b&w, whilst just keeping the colour in the bridge. Give me time (lots of it) for me to work through my Lightroom Books and I'm hoping I could do it, but she is a little impatient, so I thought I would try my luck here. Would it even be possible to do in lightroom (I hope so), and would I be able to do it with a little instruction ??? I don't have access to Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.......Help ?

Try this. Go to the HSL (hue/saturation/lighting) panel in the develop module. Click on each color then move the saturation slider all the way to the left, for every color but red. That should do what you want for easily. If you want to improve the tone of the b&w part of the image you can also play with the lightness slider for each color until you get a look you like.

Exactly as Marcus wrote...then if you need to remove any remaining color (like in the girls shirt) use the adjustment brush and set the saturation to 0 then paint out the unwanted red remnants...

Congrats - you had a goal and you learned how to achieve it. You could probably lighten the whole image a bit. The girl over dad's shoulder is so dark it hard to make out here face. Ditto on some of the other shadow areas. Nice job on accomplishing the selective coloring.
