Default Consistent Image Size After Cropping?

Very Basic Question from a DSLR noob:

Say I took a bunch of bird pictures with my new dSLR. Then say I cropped various ones various amounts to feature the bird as the primary subject, and left others original size. Now, how can I end up with all pictures coming out to the same number of pixels tall by pixels wide (so I can post 'em on a web site and make it look good)?

I'm not sure if I'm asking this right, hope it makes sense! Also unsure of attaching a couple files will help or not, but what the heck.....

(By the way, if anybody wants to critique the pix, I absolutely welcome it.)

What software are you using to process?

For example, assuming you've cropped the pictures to the same aspect ratio as the originals (probably 3:2), in Lightroom you could set the resize option in the exporter to make all the images the same size.

I'm guessing that Photoshop would have a batch processing mode that could do something similar. Not sure about other programs.

As a beginner I've been using Picasa 3 and GIMP. I have a feeling I'll be buying Lightroom soon. So what's the best way to buy -- thru the Adobe website for $299, or Amazon for cheaper?

Amazon.com: lightroom

Sorry for the dumb noob questions, and thanks a million! I've been trying to keep up with my homework, but this has escaped me.....

Nothing wrong with being a n00b. We all were at one time.

In Picasa, when you select your images and click "Export" select the "Image Size" -> Resize to: option and set a size for the long edge. Again, if you've cropped them all to the same aspect ratio, then they'll all be the same size.

Ooh! Very cool, using Export would never have occurred to me, thank you! I see an option to include a watermark too, another thing I was wondering about....

Day-yum, I wonder what all else is in there to keep me amused and enthralled?

If you have a bunch of them you can use irfanviews batch feature and resize all images by setting the long edge which will keep the aspect ratio

Picasa 3 did a dozen under one command, using the Export dialog following IABoomer's advice.

What's considered "a bunch"?
