Default Beginner Post-Production Book Suggestions

Hello,

I would like to purchase a book about photo editing. I currently have photoshop CS4. I'm not interested in learning the mechanics of using photoshop, but rather the technique (when and why) of editing photos (adjusting color levels, brightness, etc.).

Any suggestions?

First off, welcome to DPS, hope you stick around!

There are many, so hopefully you'll get lots of options listed here.

And don't discount the many online resources you have. But I also recognize the value of a nice book that walks you through everything.

I think any of the books by Scott Kelby, Matt Kloskowski, or Martin Evening would not lead you astray. They are some of the more well known authors on the subject (though there are many others I'm sure I'm missing).

Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski both have really good podcasts available for free. There are many of them and they are video tutorials that quickly take you step by step with any given enhancement. I have learned a lot from these guys via their podcasts.
