Default Sorting large number of images....

How do you sort your wedding image files so they follow each other in a chronological order? I have been using Adobe Bridge to do this task, however I often get an error message on my PC (never on my Mac though) and I have to start all over again. I am tired of it.

Which is the fastest, easiest software to use?

Lightroom is a very good photo organization software package. There are multiple ways to organize your photos and can include keyword(s) during the import. The good thing about keywording is one can later search keywords instead of trying to remember what you shot when. One can make collections i.e-guitars, moon, etc.

Also one can set a collection at import as in "Smith Wedding" and one can include a date as well. I am not a pro and have yet to really scratch the surface as to what Lightroom can do as an organizer tool. I also purchased the Scott Kelby Lightroom book. It is a very good resource and he makes it easy to read and understand.

Sort by capture time? Or sort by filename, as long as you have autonumbering turned on.

I use Lightroom, which does that by default. It allows me many different views of the set of photos, including a comparison feature so that I can see two similar shots at the same time. It allows me to pick, reject, rate, and flag photos, and sort by any of those. It allows me to do more than 95% of my processing without leaving the program, and process in batch when there's a systematic change I want to make. And I have it set to automatically attach a copyright notice on import.

I'll also mention Photo Mechanic, which has the reputation of being extraordinarily fast for the pure database parts of post. I don't use it myself, but several people I trust recommend it highly.
