Default Raw conversion what do you use?

Hi

I was wondering what people are using to convert from Raw. I have not looked at this for some time. At the moment I am opening a fairly flat image in photoshop Raw and processing it using Guy Gowan's actions it produces a nice result but is very time consuming as I am working on the image twice.

So I am intersested to hear what other people use ?

all the best

I use Adobe Lightroom which is probably THE BEST software out there for photography. It is a database of all your photos, a raw converter, and can do most post processing that does not involve bit level editing.

+1 for Lightroom. I used to be a skeptic, but it took all of an hour working with the trial to convert me.

Lightroom is nice, but I don't use it personally. If you're doing pretty similar corrections to your images (i.e. the same actions), you can use Photoshop's Image Processor script. You can give it an input folder and an output folder, and an action to run, and it will automate the whole process for you.

I can't stand Lightroom/Aperture's database systems: It never seems to work. I organize my photos myself and use ACR.

I use the Canon Digital Photo Professional that came with my camera, but I don't have to process large batches of files like some of the pros on this site do.

I've seen others recommend the UFRaw software, which I believe is a free download.

I've got PSD CS5 using ACR plugin. Since I use Adobe Bridge I can convert with ARC right from Bridge.

I was using DPP but ran into some ugly artifacts.

If you are shooting with Canon gear: Here is a link thread regarding crappy DPP raw conversions. Be aware.

Funny comments about Lightroom vs ACR since Lightroom uses that engine.

Adobe Bridge is the best out there for organization. I tried Lightroom, but it seemed kind of small and weak in its organization abilities. Photoshop CS4 or CS5 for processing. Overkill in some cases, but you have the power right there to got far beyond what light room can do if the need arises.
