Default problem with white halos

I am using Topaz Adjust/Spicify in the attached photograph. I am having a problem getting rid of the white halos along the treeline and around the masts of the boats. Is there an easy way to deal with the halos that does not ential a lot of fiddly work (to keep the details of the mast riggings)?

I have tried the Remask filter but cannot get it to work well for me (but, admittedly, I am new using it). If Remask is the solution, any tips for working with it?

Thanks,
Anne

I too have the Topaz Adjust plugin and I'm familiar with the white halos that the spicify effect sometimes brings out. A lot of times you can adjust the sliders for the Spicify preset until the halo is no longer there, but of course as you know that also means the effect isn't going to be the exact same. So after playing around with the image for awhile and trying to find one of the simplest ways to correct the halo without damaging the image itself or affecting the overall image, this is the result I came up with.

If this result is what you're looking for, I'll gladly give you the steps I took to achieve it. I'll even upload the PSD file to a server for download so you can refer to it if that would serve you better.

Thanks David, it looks a lot better. I am still new to Topaz, so a description of which sliders and what you did would be helpful.
Love the Topaz filters, they are easy to work with, but they are so powerful it can be a little confusing.

If anyone else can make suggestions, please do, even if it means using other filters or simply doing the fix in Photoshop.

\thanks again,
\anne

AnneWynne,

While this is going to change the effect dramatically, the best solution for removing the halo effect within the plugin is to lower the Adaptive Exposure. If you find this lowers the overall exposure of the image too much, you can always bump it back up outside of the plugin by adjusting the image's exposure in photoshop itself.

If this doesn't work for you, I'll give you the steps that I used to reduce the Halo's using photoshop. It's not too time consuming, it was basically just a levels layer with a mask. But of course the simplest fix is usually the best one, so if changing the Adaptive Exposure within the plugin works for you, then that'd be great
