Default Gimp Make-over!

I was working on some new portrait editing techniques and I was wondering if I should make a tutorial of this? Yay or nay?

Looks like two different people to me. And her skin in the retouch is too pink.

That is an amazing job. And to think you did it witout using the $600 software but an internet freebee.
I'd sure be interested in knowing more about how you did that work. I am especially impressed with the removal of the braces. The hair color change is also pretty slick.

good job on altering it. besides the necklace its hard to tell it was edited.
However i don't think the client would be too happy with what you did. You stretched the girls face making her look older. You eraced her necklace. I think she wore it because she likes it. removing the frekles is a personal preference along with the braces so nothing bad to say there.

First off I was not doing this for a client I was doing this to experiment with make-over/aging in Gimp and I thought it would be nice to get feedback on it before creating a tutorial.

No need to be defensive. If you had put that in your original post it would have effected your feedback. So if your intent was to age the girl then I would say you succeeded. But her skin tone is still too pink.

I think on many levels you did a really good job.

I do, as a personal preference, really hate the skin smoothing and the (to me) obvious processing work on the eyes. If I were to look at the image on the right without having seen the one on the left I would have immediately thought, "ugh, the skin and eyes and too bright teeth".. so, no, I wouldn't want to see a tutorial to answer your original question.

However, having seen how you changed certain things from the original (such as your liquifying efforts hair color changing, braces removal though corner of mouth/teeth looks obviously PPed) I'm sure there are some things to learn from this though I like the original so much better.

I say 'Yay'! That would be cool to learn how to do. I just got Gimp, and have no idea how to work it. So a tutorial on how to work on portraits like that would be so useful to me!

I agree with parts of a lot of what people have already said. I have very little experience with Gimp so I think it would be cool to learn and most of what you did would be useful but, the change in hair color I really am nor a fan of (of course I don't know what the original color is). I think the enlarging of the eyes dramatically changed the shape of her face and the skin is missing all it's yellow and is coated in magenta. I think if you look into some mathematical formulas for color balance (or use a card) to keep it real, and slightly ease off some of the other adjustments it would be great and would make a great tutorial.
