Some here may recall the B&W conversion I posted a few weeks ago of boats at a dock. Well I liked it so much I decided to give it a try as a 20" x 30" print. I had never had anything that large printed before. The original image was taken with my D700 and Sigma 12-24 lens. The jpeg file size was 3,314 kb with a pixel resolution of 3,473 x 2,312. I used OnOne Perfect Resize 7 Pro to up the pixel count to 9,013 by 6,000 with a jpeg size of 28,683. I uploaded it to Walmart and told them print it and have it sent to the store, cost me about $20. I was not sure what to expect. I had heard that when you blow things up that big they look ok from a distance, but that is all. Well this thing came back razor sharp. I can view it from about a foot away and there are no jagged lines, no jpeg artifacts, nothing -- it looks picture perfect. I am very impressed.

HUH? How am I killing anything by buying a print of something I shot with my camera?

Oh, a joke, now I get it
![]() Well I figured I would get a better print if I had enough pixels so that it would print at 300PPI. If it only printed at 100PI I figured it would not be as sharp a print. Thus, I used the software to interpolate between the actual pixels to give me more pixels. Was this not a good idea?

His camera doesn't have 78 megapixels (24x36in @ 300 dpi); Not even 19 megapixel (24x36 @ 150 dpi).
You have to make that up somewhere. Upsizing it with professional software meant to do that will give you better/sharper results than using some walmart photo booth to do the resizing.

@kirbinster and i speak in math:
I've done a 24x36" print from another printer from a D80 without interpolating. I was more than happy with the results, and it wasn't even properly sharpened. I've got some friends looking for some large prints in the near future: i'll see what I get from it.
