Default Free Editing Programs

My budget is limited; can anyone tell me where, online or otherwise, I can find free and decent editing programs?

I know photoshop has free trial, but I'd like to find a program that once downloaded, I can use indefinitely.

Thanks for your help, in advance :-)

I assume you're using Windows. Choice of OS makes a difference here, especially if you are on Linux, there are a lot more options.

GIMP is a full-featured image editor, comparable to Photoshop -- about the only thing it's missing right now is 16-bit editing. There's a significant learning curve. Totally free.

There are several free RAW processors out there, aside from whatever came with your camera. I've tried UFRaw and it's good, but I prefer RAWTherapee.

One thing I haven't found is a good free/open source asset management solution, but the above should get you started, without knowing in any more detail what you need...

GIMPshop is a modified version of GIMP intended to replicate the feel of Photoshop;

I assume the OP isn't interested in perpetuating a copyright violation. "They created the weakness, not me..." is self-serving sophistry.

Just cause you can't afford it doesn't make it right, it's theft in the simplest of forms, just like me going to your image gallery and grabbing some nice landscapes to print and hang on my wall, they're on your site so i'll jst help myself...theft is theft no matter how you slice it

If you hung my pictures on your wall that you downloaded off the internet from a webpage I host that is certainly not stealing... in fact I would be honored. Also most of my images are 300dpi. Downloading a 72dpi image from the internet is not the same....

Some people enjoy photography, other money aand greed. Good to know where you stand. I dont need a paycheck to feel good about my photos, I do it because I love it

I would say theft is a form of greed, is it not? Pot, meet kettle.

Photoshop is the property of Adobe until you purchase a license to use it, plain and simple, it's okay if you don't understand copyright laws.
