Default Aperature 3

Just getting into photography and want suggestions on software to do some editing/organizing. I have a Mac and was looking at Aperature 3. I already have Iphoto which from what I can tell doesn't do very much on the editing side of it. Anyone have any experience with Aperature 3? Or feel free to suggest others please.

I also have a Mac, several in fact. Tried Aperture when it first came out along with Lightroom. I chose LR because it is a better product and because it is integrated with the Adobe Creative Suite.

You can get LR plugins for other software such as portrait, HDR, etc. programs. I prefer to use the plugins in Photoshop, however.

Lightroom is my workhorse. I only use PS for special processing. If you are on a tight budget get LR and Elements (a less expensive Photoshop) or use free GIMP if you need Photoshop like processing.

I have Aperture. I'm not a pro... should point that out. I got used to iphoto too, and I tried the LR demo and Aperture demo for 30 days each and my iphoto experience just made Aperture SO much easier to use for me than LR, and it was cheaper, so that didn't hurt, either. I'm still quite happy about my decision and a friend of mine (who IS a pro) has shown me around LR and I'm quite convinced that with very few exceptions they can do the same things at the end of the day. It seems to be a matter or what is easier/more intuitive to use.

Very true.

That said, I'm a Mac / LR user. I could never really get into the interface on Aperture.
