Default Another RAW question

I seem to notice that the coloring on my RAW photos turns out pretty bad and I'm unsure how to fix it. I use UFRAW and Gimp for editing. I tried with exposure, contrast, curves, etc. I did convert this into a JPG. Any suggestions or tips on how I can make this easier? I don't have this issue in JPG but I am trying to expand my knowledge and skills. Thanks!

Your white balance is WAY off. Like miles.

Yup! White balance for certain. Don't use either of those programs so I can't help you there but I can bump your thread.

Are you wondering how to change the white balance? In GIMP go to color and click on color balance and you should get a window with three sliders. Play with them until the picture looks right. There is probably an easier way to do it in UFRAW, but I have never used it so I wouldn't know how to do it. I hope this helps.

I don't know these programs, but if they are not importing the camera's settings (like wb), then nothing you set on the camera will make a difference (like sharpness, wb, etc) this is just the unprocessed, raw data. That's what is probably looks like before edits. Programs like lightroom will bring in the cameras settings, so if you use a program wb, then it will import that along with the raw data. JPEG, obviously is processed by the camera, so all wb etc has happened before it is compressed by the camera.

GIMP White Balance Tutorial

I always go for the eyedropper first. It'll at least get you into the ballpark.

To clarify - UFRaw does import the camera data for most models. My Sony is supported.

Colour balance is a slider under the first tab of the control panel. It is labelled 'Temperature' there is also a drop down that gives you common settings including Camera WB and Auto WB.

As an alternative, I prefer RAWTherapee to UFRaw. It works in any OS and is also Open Source.
