Default Help with removing a distracting background item

Hello, I am completely clueless when it comes to post processing beyond slight color, etc, adjustments. Can anyone help me figure out how to remove the white stick on the left side of the pic? I have a trial version of Lightroom and that's about it.

i don't know if lightroom has a rubber stamp tool (clone tool) like photoshop's. if it has, you can just clone out the white branch sticking out
very nice shot.

There is a clone tool, and I have been playing with it but it looks very obvious, you can see the circles. Maybe I just need more practice.

Photoshop has a heal patch tool which works super well for things like this.

The trick to using the clone tool is using a soft edged brush and using a large enough brush that it isnt obvious. It takes practice and time to get right.

Photoshop CS5's content aware fill can fix that.

Took me about five seconds to select the area, hit the delete key and set it to do content-aware fill, and then use the patch tool to clean up the edges left behind. This is the kind of thing Lightroom is not so good for. You might want to try the Gimp with the Resynthesizer plugin.

Wow, that's fantastic! I'll look at Gimp. Any idea if Elements has something similar? If I buy something my budget won't allow Photoshop...

you can do in lightroom (attached) but it wouldn't be my first tool choice. LR clone and heal brush it best for minor touch ups

Wow! How long did that take you? I felt like even if I figured out how to make it look good it would take me hours.

maybe 5 minutes? Lots of little adjustments and I had to move the "copy from" circle on just about every click. Photoshop would be a click and a drag of the mouse..
