Default upres 250 to 300 dpi

Hi all,
I am trying to put together spreads for an album, and the company requires the spreads be 300 dpi. My photos are 250 dpi, but are large files. What is the best way resize? I was going to Image>resize and entering 300 dpi, and selecting "resample image" > bicubic smoother, but I wasn't sure if that is the best way.

As an example, one of the files I have has the following stats:
Pixel dimensions: 42.1m
Width 4700 pixels x height 3133 pixels
Width 18.8 inches x height 12.53 inches
resolution 250 pixels/inch

I will be printing pages from a 12 x 12 album--while some photos are only 1/4 or less of the page, some are full-page images. I am thinking that I should perhaps just change the resolution for images that will only be a portion of the page (without resampling)-- which would result in a smaller document size, but, if I understand correctly, also result in the best quality picture. For those single pictures that are going to be full page spreads, I should upres AND resample. Let me know if that sounds correct or if there is something better to do.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Could I please ask if what you have been asked is to provide the images at the sizes they are to be printed at eg 12x12 etc at 300ppi (at the size being printed)?

If so you would have to resize each image and set the ppi to be 300 at that particular size. Some will be downsized and if that is the case you can un check re sample.

As for upsizing it is best to use re sample and as for interpolation method there is no right or wrong answer. Some people will do it in one swoop others will increase in 10% increments untill they reach there target.

I would also recommend to sharpen your images after resizing especial up sizing I often use Bi-linear because I prefer the slight bluing and find it has less halo's and it definitely needs sharpening in the resizing process.

Just to contradict my self on Bi-Linear heres a quote from another forum:
"In Photoshop I use Bicubic sharper for reduction (it's designed to preserve mose edge contrast which equates to retaining more sharpness), and bicubic smoother for enlarging"

Hope that gives you some ideas.

Thanks for the quick response!

For the images, I am doing layouts in an album, so it is not necessarily only one photo, and I need to provide the pages at the size that they will be printed--so 12 x 24 spreads. I did the spreads in InDesign, so many have been resized downward or had their frames altered to have only a portion of the image showing.

Ahh I see that makes sense, I have never used indesign but im guessing you either set the canvas size to a measurment like inches and then at a certain ppi, or you set the canvas size as pixels width and height which you have to work out so its 12 x 300.

Then all you have to do is export or save as, do the printers take PDF files that way if you used any vectors they would remain as vectors plus as there page layouts they would be able to edit any text etc it wouldnt just be an image.

Well I hope it all goes well
