Upgrading tips please?

Am not a pro but love photography! For organizing and editing part I use Lightroom2 as well as Photoshop Elements 4(way too old but it still works for what I do). There are upgrades available, like LR3 and Photoshop Elements 8. What would you do if you could choose upgrade one of the software programs I work with??
Any ideas? Anything new that I would need/love to have?
