Default Choosing Shoot Locations

Hello everyone,

I'm going to be doing some promo shots for a friend's band in a couple weeks and I'm going out this weekend to scout some shoot locations. I've tried getting some insight from the band as to what sort of mood or style they're looking for, but they're very tough to get an answer from and they seem to want to leave it up to my "artistic license".

Anyways, I'm doing research and have decided to try and find some of the grunge city-scape / abandoned building type locations that a lot of bands are using, but I wanted to see if anyone has any other ideas for types of locations that they've found to be useful.

Things I'm looking for just generic locations like:
  • Train Yard
  • Airport
  • Old school diner
  • etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A playground with swings/slides etc.

A public bathroom (especially if the band is co-ed)

On school bus (that might be a tough one)

Thanks a lot guys! I really like the car yard and the bathroom ideas.

The bathroom one, I could see some wide-angle shots from the floor, with a tiled wall for texture. With the car yard, I'm sure there's TONS of stuff to play around with for props.

Keep 'em coming!

Any construction/demolition site, the beams give awesome perspective, just be careful! Under a bridge, in a van, down by the river, oh wait, that's Chris Farley...

I have a location under a bridge "down by the river" that I'm going to check out. Should be some good lines to use.

Any other suggestions out there?

If I could give advice, try to gain inspiration from what is out there already (on the net) and then challenge yourself by adding 2 or 3 other locations that would not be typical for a band. Maybe you will create a style.
