Default I'm struggling with this a lot it seems...

1. i wanted to make sure he didnt look so tense cuz he is an awkward person (i learned from speaking with him) so i tried my best to make sure his hands (tell tale sign of discomfort) were relaxed but it seems like he is still so tight... maybe its his shoulders? i tried to engage as much as possible but there was a language barrier so i didnt know how to bypass that.
2. the color seems a bit funky... should i invest in reflectors as lighting may be the cause to many of my problems...?

I'm not professional but IMO he looks fine, maybe if he was angled a bit more towards the camera?
It seems a bit hazy - did you do any post processing to this? Also his face seems like it is a little out of focus???
I don't think this is a horrible picture. It's still a keeper.
I did some adjustments:
shadows, highlights, contrast: Hope you don't mind. If you don't like I will delete.

One thought, in poses like that, don't have them turn their necks completely sideways. I think that is what looks ackward and uncomfortable. Have the body turned so that only a 3/4 degree neck turn is necessary. Just my thought.

You captured a nice expression and got great eye contact. I would have given a little more room at the bottom, so that his arms aren't cropped so close to the elbow, and cut out more of the tree on the right. Your focus is off though. It can probably be improved somewhat with some sharpening in photoshop, so it's still a nice portrait!

To "st_jude1973": if you want more replies, one thing you could do is use your own name instead of "st_jude1973@yahoo.com". It makes the whole thing a lot more personal.

As for the photo, what should be black is more of a grey colour, and some areas have been over exposed. It looks like you shot into the light and the reflections in your camera caused somewhat of a haze. What lens did you use?

You're welcome and thank you! I'm happy you like it!
I adjusted the highlights, shadows, midtones. I dropped backlighting because I felt the background was too bright. Then I used some contrast just a bit, and sharpened his face only just a little bit. Then I brightened up the foreground a little. Then crop of course.
I'm new to this stuff, (about a year now), so what I did wasn't anything spectacular, but it does make me feel good to hear you like what I tried.
I agree that his body should be turned a bit more toward camera. You can't change that now, only for future shoots! Live and Learn! I'm having a blast learning! I hope you are too!

I have the original sized photo if you wish to use it, I can email it to you, just let me know!
Take Care!
