Default What types of shots for modeling pics?

I'm wondering when a model wants to make a portfolio what type of shots are the best? Cause you wouldn't really want them to be set up or looking like a senior photo session would you??? Thanks for any help

i guess it depends on what sort of work they want to aquire throught the portfolio.. a good portfolio would show diversity.

maybe ask the model what she wqants ion her portfolio.
i just did that and after a few messages figured she doesnt want "glam" she prettymuch wants fine-art..
so we're doing a film-noir of some description.

ask what she likes i guess... and if you dont think you can do what she's wanting let her know.

Great advice. I don't think she really knows what she wants. Her plan is to go out to California with someone and go around to agencies and show her portfolio.

ok,

did she approach you, or did you approach her?

it may pay to look at her current portfiolio, see what she's missing and make a few suggestions that would suit your own photographic skill set...

but, its also a good opportunity to build on your own portfolio by doing somethign you would like in yours.. so maybe make some comparisons.

f you apporached her.. you have the upper hand and bigger say in what you want.. if she approached you then it may be the other way around.. but then again, as you say, she doesnt knwo what she wants.. then the creative ball is back in your court so to speak.

Well I approached her so yes I'm also thinking ok this will be great to build my portfolio especially since I have a good idea of what I want, but I still wondered well what do potential employers want to see? I'm very new at this, but I see a very editorial look I'd like to go for or more posh look and what she has seems very high school senior portrait. To me it screams where she comes from..the midwest. Doesn't show her full potential I think.

I'd suggest both of you do some research on agencies in the target area in CA. Look at the ports they have posted. Diversity is key to getting work and not getting stuck in one genre. Also most agencies will have some "rules" about what they will accept, so do your home work before you start. Adding to your port is fine but may not achieve her goal and sounds like she needs to define her goal better.
