The mother never showed up and I waited for a hr at this location when the time came. Now the mother emails me saying she doesn't want me to use the images from the morning shoot with her daughter at all in any way.

And she is emailing as if I was the one who never showed up at the shoot, and saying I play games. So I am being professional and not argue with he woman b/c I know she did not come because I waited there for an ENTIRE HOUR not moving from the location we were suppose to meet. Now my question is am I not allowed to use her daughters images for my portfolio? She was suppose to sign a model release at the meet she never showed to.
There's nothing that says you can't have those images in your portfolio... Though it could be very bad for business. Remember this - happy customers tell ten people... unhappy customers tell the world..

If it were me, I'd cut your losses and move on.

It's a shame, but this very thing happens often.

Thanks! So just don't use the photos and forget about it?I have never had anyone not show then try to put the blame on me its like come on. Right now I am doing the free sessions to build my port. So its not like she paid for the images. And I sent her her images already from the morning shoot with her daughter. So is she allowed to use the images for her own use even printing?

Ok, I've read some on model releases and now i'm more confused than when I started. I just have one simple question..

If I have a photo that I took (legally of course) and I would like to use it only in my portfolio (which will be viewed by possible clients), do I need a model release for it's use?

Thanks
Mark

Mark, technically as you're using it for marketing, and you will (hopefully) make monetary gain as a result, you should have a release - a lot of people don't and will use whatever they like on their website. Can you email the person, tell them of your intention?

Laws vary from country to country, make sure to check your local laws.
