Default lots of light

Just wanted to get some feedback on this portrait. The sun was blazing behind the subject. I couldn't get both eyes in focus so I just wanted to see possibly what I was doing wrong. Too shallow DOF?? Thanks for the help.

Besides the flare, the composition is good. I would say you may have been too close (closer than your minimum focusing distance for your lens) to get the forward eye in focus.

Please post EXIF data as per the forum guide lines. That helps us help you.

I grabbed your EXIF from your Flickr page:

Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture: f/2.2
Focal Length: 35 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: -5 EV
Flash: On, Return not detected

Take a look at the DOF Calculator. When shooting with a pretty open aperture like f/2.2, at 35mm, you need to be a bit further from your subject to get focus on both eyes. Hope this helps.

I really like the warm backlit look but not having both eyes in focus does kinda hold it back. There is no reason you could not go with a much smaller aperture (say F5.6) since the background appears to be pretty far back. Having her hair in focus would be nice too but the eyes are what really count.

Not that it matters but why the -5 EV?

I would also crop it higher so that you aren't cutting off her chin and the top of her head. Maybe portait orientation would have been better.
