Default DSLR Lenses for Beginners

So, elsewhere on the internet, this link was being discussed: DSLR Lens 101. This article seems to contain more information than you could ever want to know about terminologies, magnification, focusing formulas, abberations, and heaps of other stuff that the technically minded will probably love reading Enjoy!

Thanks to the help of other people posting links to various introductions to lenses, here's a more comprehensive list of places you can go to learn about the optical basics of DSLR lenses:

Here's another SLR lens 101 type FAQ. Canon-specific, alas.

Canon EOS Beginners’ FAQ, Part III - Lenses

Also, if you're wondering about which brand to buy, there's a good (but Canon-biased, natch) comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of the different brands in Part I.

I think it is a great idea to get a list of information about lenses together - don't forget the thread on SimCams, which has some useful links which allow you to "try" different lenses via a web browser.

Will the resources be gathered up and posted back into the first entry for easy reference?

There is some good stuff in the "learning" section of the Tamron website, such as their focal length comparison tool and the depth of field comparison tool.

I got to say Nicole this post is probably the one most important post I have seen on this site in reference to photography and understanding the equipment. Told me alot of things I thought I knew but obviously didn't
Thank you for the great links. The simcam is a great tool in learning F-stop and shutter speed. the other links are very informative.
Thanks again!
