Question Composition and Post-Processing Question

Hi!

I would like to hear your critique / constructive comments on the composition of this picture. I have to admit that I didn't feel comfortable to take such a picture (this was the first time I took a picture of a beggar; btw. it was take in Brussels, Belgium) so I took it without looking in the viewfinder <- and that should be the first criticism but anyway... I would like to know your critique on the composition of it and post-processing I did.

Thanks in advance!

The b&w and contrast for the photo is quite nice. I looked at the large size of this shot and even then I find it difficult to see that that is a begger (person) there on the ground. The upper left corner and the people walking by are too dark for my liking. And, the black or missing brick in the forground is a distraction for me. Maybe a crop above that spot would bring the people closer and draw the viewers attention better. Good start at street photography.
