Default Focus : full or partial

I recently bought a new 550D with kit 18-55 IS lens. Tried my hands photographing a cake slice and need your help with inputs.
Should i keep the whole piece in focus or does the current settings make it more appealing?
Any other comments would really help this beginner

Nice shot! I believe the focus is just right, with its shallow DOF. Bringing the whole image into focus would leave you with a flat looking image. The only issue I have is the decoration on the plate, it's seems really distracting to me almost overpowering the main subject.

I think the depth of field is fine, but I'd move the point of focus further back on the slice of pie rather than on the leading edge.
