Default D3000?

Hey, does anybody have a D3000? Or heard anything about it? I think it's a fairly new camera. Thinking about buying one since it seems to be a good camera and in my price range.

I started with a D60 (the D3000 has replaced it, the focus system is better) and I loved it. Camera in the category are easy enough to use if you are starting yet powerful enough if you want to dip your toe a little bit further in this wonderful hobby.

I switch to a D90 when I realized I was always carrying my D60 and I was always shooting in manual. The D90 allow me to change more settings straight from the body instead of going in the menu. Otherwise I would have kept the D60 because I was very please with the image quality.

You can get some example on my Flickr. The Carnival 2009 Set was entirely taken with my old D60.

Hope this help.

Most dealers are selling the D3000 alongside whatever stock they have of the D60 for a nominal price increase: Definetly stump up the extra ~$50 theyre charging.

With it, you get a significantly better AF system, faster processing, the GUIDE mode which can be useful to a newcomer as well as a larger, better screen.

Thanks for your input!! I checked out your album, those were some awesome photos! I'm a beginner so definitely looking for simple, a easy to use camera, and I can always upgrade later if I want to...so it sounds like the D3000 would be perfect for me. I love the image quality too!

I have a D3000! Loving it so far.

Differences between D3000 and D60
11-point AF vs. 3-point AF
Scene Recognition System
3D AF tracking system (like D5000/D90)

Yeah, it has a 3" screen instead of the 2.5" screen on the D60, but the number of pixels (230,000) stays the same. I don't notice much of a difference.

Here's a comparison of the D3000 and the D60: Nikon D3000 compared to the Nikon D60 versus the Canon Rebel XS / EOS 1000D

I got the essentials kit from B&H: Nikon | D3000 Digital SLR Camera w/18-55 VR Lens & | | B&H

Also, keep in mind that the kit lens is less sharp at either end (18mm and 55mm), more so at the 55mm lens. It's sharpest around 35mm.

You know what, I wasn't super comfortable with the manual settings (P A S M modes) and we were on a cruise so there was no turning back hehehe. Many shots were taken using either the portrait (if I wanted a blurry background) or the landscape (if I wanted the entire scene in focus) automatic settings. Also, a tripod is a must for low light situation. The first one I purchased was 40$... still, allowed me to capture this. You don't need expensive gear to take nice shots (at least, I think it's a nice shot hehehe).

Carnival Freedom

What I liked the most with my D60 is that I didn't felt overwelm when I started (actually, I felt I didn't know anything hahaha) and I was comfortable switching from automatic to manual depending on the importance of the shot. Manual was at that time only when I was just practicing and automatic when I didn't want to miss the shot.
